  • EEOC Files Lawsuit Against Three Farms for Sexual Harassment

    The EEOC filed three lawsuits last week alleging sexual harassment of farmworkers.  One of the lawsuits filed was against Roy Farms, alleging that a male supervisor made sexual and threatening comments to male workers, touched them in a sexual manner and insisted they watch him urinate.  One worker quit after he had complained, and nothing was done.  The largest onion grower in the U.S., River Point Farms, was also under fire.  The EEOC alleged that a supervisor not only made sexual comments and requests for sexual favors to a farmworker, but also encouraged her husband to engage in domestic abuse, and even encouraged the..

  • SunTrust Bank Sued by EEOC

    Tampa - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a lawsuit today against Sun Trust Banks, Inc. for a branch manager sexually harassing three female employees at its Sarasota location.  It is alleged by the EEOC that Sun Trust's branch manager inappropriately touched female employees and made lewd and unwelcomed comments to them about their anatomy, sex life and dating habits.  The EEOC further alleges that the branch manager suggested that a female financial services representative put on a bathing suit to attract new customers. Sun Trust failed to take appropriate action after several of the women complained to Sun Trust management, including Sun Trust's human..

  • Hurricane Grill and Wings Settle Sexual Harassment Suit

    West Palm Beach - The owner/operator of a Hurricane Grill and Wings restaurant franchise in Royal Palm Beach, Fla., will pay $200,000 to settle a class sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC’s lawsuit alleged that the company violated federal law when it permitted a class of female servers to be sexually harassed by a customer, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy. The EEOC alleged that the company fired a female server after management learned she had hired a private attorney to assist her in filing an EEOC complaint.   • Harassment Suit Against Piloto Photo Center, Inc. Filed by EEOC

    Miami - The EEOC has filed a lawsuit today against Piloto Photo Center, Inc., a Miami-based photography studio and photograph processor, for subjecting female employees to sexual and gender-based harassment and firing two employees who complained. The EEOC alleges that the female employees were regularly subjected to graphic sexual comments and demeaning gender-based name calling, including frequent comments about sexual conduct; the sexual habits of animals; the female anatomy; the male anatomy; and displays of pornography.
